He was predeceased by: his former wife Brenda; his parents, Joe Matthews and Allie Matthews; and his siblings, Evie Lou Williamson, Bobby Joe Matthews and Larry Matthews.
He is survived by: his wife Debby Tharp Harmon; his children, Nikki, Billy Cox of Plantersville, James Matthews Jr. (Punkin), Angela of Plantersville, Sheryl Matthews of Tupelo, Sheila Barber, Mike of Plantersville and Stephanie Holloway of Plantersville; his grandchildren, Autumn Cox, Alexis Holloway, Matthew Barber, Mandi Howell (Jason), Jon Paul Barber (Crystal), Jacob Matthews (Taylor), Allie Abell (Trenton), Tripp Matthews (Ashlee) and Erin Matthews; his great grandchildren, Molly Matthews, Milly Matthews, Harrison Matthews, Brenlee Howell, Wyatt Howell, Weston Barber and James Matthews IV; and his brother Garey Matthews.
