She was predeceased by: her parents, Marshall Clay Rushing and Alice Ray Farrar Rushing; her husband James R. "Jim" Abernethy; and her siblings, Gerald Rushing, Buddy Rushing and Colleen Vlach.

She is survived by: her children, Terry Abernethy (Amy) of Tupelo and Toni Zweig (Warren) of Mandeville, Louisiana; her grandchildren, Zack Abernethy, Webb Abernethy, Abby Zweig and Anna Zweig; her brother Danny Rushing (Vicki) of Tupelo; and her sister-in-law Ellen Rushing of Mantachie.
