He was predeceased by : his parents, Clifford Ted and Anne O'Dean Mask Swords; his wives, Martha Poe Swords and Shara Holley Swords; and his children, Milton Swords and Betty Vaughn.

He is survived by : his children, Charla Hardin, Amy Grisham (Johnny), Charles Swords II (Amanda), Jennifer Robbins and Jimmy Swords (Melissa). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
