He was predeceased by : his parents, Henry Thornton and Mary Eula Milling Thornton; and his siblings, Audrey Ricks, Caron Thornton and Grace Gilmore.

He is survived by : his wife Ella Mae Thornton; his sister Frances Caffey; his children, Michelle Killebrew (Ronnie), Kinny Thornton (Yvonne) and Tommy Thornton (Melanie); and his grandchildren, Krissy Lepard (Lin), Hannah Killebrew, Drew Thornton (Sara), Noah Killebrew, Colton Thornton, Oliver Gray and Henry Thornton. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
