He was predeceased by: his wife Ella French Ferrell Atkins; his parents, Elizabeth Starnes Atkins (Betty) and Samuel Leon Atkins; and his stepfather Austin "Buffalo" Williams Smith. He is survived by: his children, Reynolds "Leon", Elizabeth "Sissy" Atkins Blackwood (Marc), John Douglas (Johnny) and Samuel French Atkins (Sammy); and his grandsons, Tate Dickey, Doug Atkins, Brandon, Tres Atkins, Tripp Cotten and Ryker Atkins.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St Mary's Basilica building fund.
