She was predeceased by : her parents, Barney Shipp and Lily Shipp; and her children, J. W. Nevels, Jr., Debra Wyatt, Lucinda "Cindy" Emrick and Gary Nevels.

She is survived by : her husband Elvin "Leon" Nevels; and her children, Barbara Acuff (Jimmy), Peggy Cousins (Tommy), Angela Nevels, Cathy Hughes, Larry Nevels and Elvin Nevels, Jr.. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
