He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Harry Simmons and Lillian Andrews Simmons. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lynne Brock Simmons of West Point; his daughters, Gigi Simmons Ellis (John) of West Point and Leslie Simmons Nash (Chris) of West Point; his grandchildren, Nathan Ellis (Anna) of Caledonia, Cameron Ellis (Caroline) of Memphis, Mary Catherine Jones (Steven) of West Point, Chase Nash (Claire) of The Colony, Maegen Ellis (Geoffrey) of Olive Branch and Sara Claire Nash (Tanner) of West Point; his great grandchildren, Yeates Parham, Madison Jones, Jackson Ellis, Simmons Ellis, Maddox Jones, Eva Grace King and Henry Ellis; his sister Bobbie Jo Simmons Rhea of West Point; and his siblings-in-law, Cathy McKinney (Jimmy) of West Point, Rev. Eddie Brock (Sandra) of Montpelier and Gary Brock (Roxie) of Montpelier. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
