He was predeceased by: his parents, William Yates and Ozie Mann Yates; his wife Lois Yates; and his son Cary Gale Yates. He is survived by: his son Christopher Yates of Lakeland, FL; and his siblings, Beverly Ruth Yates of Oklahoma, Jimmy Yates of Grenada, James "Doug" Yates of Oklahoma and Joe Yates of Oklahoma. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
