He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Smitherman and Ruth Ann Smitherman; his brother Richard Dale Smitherman; and his brother-in-law Gilbert Lantrip. He is survived by: his siblings, Rebecca Lantrip and Charles Edward "Eddie" Smitherman (Debbie); and his siblings' children, Jason Smitherman, Jessica Roberson (Jay) and Nathen Lantrip.
