He was predeceased by : his parents, Howard Andrew Birchfield Sr. and Dena Boumann; his sisters, Jane, Vivian, Midge, Mary Ellen and Betty; and his close friend Doris Waddell of Billings.

He is survived by : his son Steve Birchfield (Christine); his sister Florence Louise Langston of Casa Grande, AZ; his nephews, Clayton Langston (Noreen) and Willard Myers (Julie); his cousin Deanna Stamps; and his great-nephew Willard Jr. Myers (Kristie).
