He was predeceased by: his parents, Pete Waleri and Martha Waleri (Nelson); his sister Dorothy McFarland; his stepfather Ray Nelson; and his stepbrother Fred Nelson.

He is survived by: his wife Geraldine Short; and his children, Norine McKinney (Jere), Michael Waleri (Teri), Norma Waleri and Lyndie Riley (Monty). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
