He is survived by: his wife Carol; and his children, Hannes Dietrich (Marie-Aline Cadieux), Bärbel Pafford (Roger) and Julie Kelly (Mike). He is also survived by five grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 5th 2027 at 2:00 PM at the Inspiration Hall.

A scholarship fund to commemorate Rudi's legacy as a teacher and mentor is being established through the Montana State University Alumni Foundation.
