He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Nies and Clara Nies (Berg); his siblings, Thea, Roger, Jim, Harriet, Willa and Bernard; and his granddaughter Hope Elizabeth Homolka.
He is survived by: his wife Carole Ann Stieg; his son Harold Nies (Janet) of Laurel, MT; and his grandchildren, Cheyenne Hagenbeck (Jesse), Jordan Medearis (Tyler), Tylyn Loudermilk (David), Justin Doll (Andrea), Ryan Sonnabend (Dominick), Megan Homolka, Carole Homolka and Mariah Ruple (Bradley). He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Stevenson Funeral Home (12 Barrow St, Ekalaka, MT 59324). A prayer was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
