He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Matthews and Jean Matthews (Miller); his former wife Janis Matthews; his son Brad Matthews; his brothers, Tom Matthews and Tim Matthews; and his brother-in-law Monte Steffan.

He is survived by: his wife Sandy Monson Odegard of Great Falls, Montana; his sons, Todd Matthews (Susan) of Douglas, Wyoming and Greg Matthews (Missie) of Billings; his siblings, Sandra Steffan of Billings and Troy Matthews (Tracy) of Cody, Wyoming; and his grandchildren, Austyn Matthews (Lauren) of Gillette, Madisyn Matthews of Douglas, Bradyn Matthews of Laramie, Dalton Hall (Stormy) of Lead, Baillie Packer (Casey) of Sturgis, Dillon of Rapid City, Taylor McDowell (Micah) of Billings and McKinsey Matthews of Billings. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Jude's Hospital or to Tunnel to Towers.
