He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Athman and Mary Bernadette Athman (Gutenkauf); his stepfather Richard Meemken; and his brothers-in-law, Bishop Alphonse Sowada, Mal Goenner and Adrian Sowada.
He is survived by: his wife Terese of Hamilton; his children, Davin (Julia), Tasha, Brock (Elise), Austin (Emily), Jaffre (Neha) and Garrett (Sarah); his grandchildren, Keenan, Carrie, Kendra, Katia, Brielle, Audrey, Henry, Grace, Mary, Paul, Pat, Elina, Aidan and Baby Josephine; and his siblings, Kathy Goenner, Judy Prom (Jack), Phyllis Dennee (Bob), Connie Athman (Tom Lockhart) and Rob Athman (Cindy). He is also survived by nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel (1010 W Main St, Hamilton, MT 59840). A rosary will be held on Thursday, November 5th 2026 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 6th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish (411 S 5th St, Hamilton, MT 59840).
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Dick's memory may make a donation to the Crosier Fathers and Brothers in Onamia, MN and Phoenix, AZ (crosier.org), the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation (bonemarrow.org), or St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Hamilton.
