He was predeceased by: his father John Kinzel; and his wife Patricia Townsend Kinzel. He is survived by: his mother Miriam Kinzel (Deppmeier); his children, Talia Grant, Shawn Tsosie (Claire), Jay Tsosie and Roberta Quintana; his grandchildren, Desmond, Caleb Grant, Simone, Ronan Tsosie and Tierra Quintana; his siblings, Dale Kinzel (Margie), Yvonne Rasmussen (Mark) and Carla Becker (Rod); his nephew Paul Rasmussen (Kellie); his great-nephews, Daniel and Andrew Rasmussen; his niece Kara Doyle (Jeff); his great-nephews, Patrick and Jack Doyle; his niece Kasi Balmforth (Damian); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kieran, Lilith and Willow; his close friend Sandi Azure; and his pet Daisy.
