We announce the death of Stephen A. Doherty of Missoula, Montana, who passed away on May 25, 2026, at the age of 74. Stephen will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Stephen will be remembered for the impact he had on the lives of those around him. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Those who knew Stephen will remember moments of kindness, warmth, and presence. Though words cannot fully capture his life, the legacy of connections and experiences remains. Stephen’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued his companionship.
He is survived by: his siblings, Kathy Sprattler (Mark) of Billings, MT, Mike Doherty (Anne) of Spokane, WA and Tim Doherty (Leslie); and his great-uncle Steve.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests any memorial donations be made to the Northern Plains Resource Council or the Montana Democratic Party.
