He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Essen and Lois Essen; his wife Paula Watson; his brother Howard; his nephews, René Tennison and Sean Essen; and his grandson Trevor Essen.
He is survived by: his sons, Eric Essen (Gayla), Kim Essen (Kimberly), Anthony Essen and Ronald Essen; and his sisters, Roma Camerata and Claudette Matthews. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren.
