He is survived by: his children, Robert E. Peterson (Sara), Jon C. Peterson (Bonnie), Kristen Dietz (Christopher), Kimberly Jenkins and Kelly Wright; and his son-in-law Bruce Barrett. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bixby Presbyterian Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 1806 Fork Bixby Rd Advance, NC 27006.

“My heart is heavy but I'm happy for Pete who has moved into the more immediate presence of his Savior. His asking me if I had thought about entering the ministry during my final session prior to confirming my faith. He is mainly responsible for me serving for 53 years of active service in ministry within the Moravian Church. Just this past Tuesday at our Cup of Covenant Service, I remembered Pete as my primary mentor. To this day, I service communion the way Pete taught me. Thank you, Pete.”
