He was predeceased by : his parents, Jacob George Barnette and Daisy Hensley Barnette; and his siblings, Harold Eugene Barnette, James Hunter Barnette and Eula Lowe Doss.

He is survived by : his wife Carolyn Steele Barnette; his son Chip Barnette (Kristine); his granddaughters, Ellie and Vivienne; his nieces, Crystal Webster (Jack) and Patricia Smith (Clifford); and his siblings-in-law, Jerry R. Steele, Linda Thompson and Judy Barnes (Rick). He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.
