He is survived by : his wife Tina Swaringen Smith; his children, James C. Smith of Albemarle, NC and Lynette Smith Whitley (Alex) of Mount Pleasant, NC.; his grandchildren, A. Taylor Smith, Jared R. Smith and Laura G. Whitley; and his siblings, Joyce Troublefield of Albemarle, NC, Gerald J. Smith (Betty) of Columbia, SC and Donald J. Smith (Jane) of Albemarle, NC.. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
