He was predeceased by: his parents, J. L. "Jade" and Faith Nelson Carpenter; and his brother Rickey Carpenter. He is survived by: his wife Janet Morgan Carpenter; his children, Michael Carpenter (Angel), Jada Garmon (Shaun) and Roxanne Reeder (John); and his sister Robin Mull. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
