She was predeceased by: her parents, Susie Angeline Cooper Marcom and Willie Sidney Marcom of Angier; and her siblings, Doris, Wilma, Billy, Marie, Louise and Mary Lee.

She is survived by: her former husband Medwick V. Byrd, Sr.; her children, Vickie Byrd Lanier, Dr. Medwick V. Byrd, Jr. (Bill) and Dr. Gregory Mitchell Byrd (Jenn); her grandchildren, Tyler Gray Olive, William Vaughan Olive and Abigail Suzanne Lanier; her stepgrandson Daniel Pickle; her great grandchild Eli Olive; and her sister Sue Marcom Jones (Billy).

As per Shirley's request, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund.
