He was predeceased by: his parents, Woodrow Matthews and Helen Matthews; and his sisters, Hilda Weaver and Marie Matthews. He is survived by: his children, Lori Matthews, Teresa Rupp (Daniel), Richard Matthews (Julie), Donna Preddy (Michael) and Shea Barbour (Scott); and his siblings, Cathy Matthews, Johnny and Jimmy Matthews. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 16th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Oak Grove Baptist Church (851 Oak Grove Church Rd, Angier, NC 27501).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church.
