“David spent his life presenting a polished fiction, turning his back on his first daughters Devery and Dara, trying to erase them. The man the world admired was not the man who raised us; behind the sermons was someone who used faith to control, groom, and intimidate. I walked away to save myself, and when my son was born, I protected him by ensuring they would never meet. Truth outlasts performance. In the end, the daughter he tried hardest to break became the one he could never silence.”

“My name is Rick Droz and I was friends with David in the Marine Corps. We went through boot camp and other trainings before going to Vietnam. We were assigned to different units and did not serve together and lost touch. I had been living in Cambodia for some years and stumbled upon his book that was left at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Phnom Penh in 2010. How it got there we don’t know.”

“I contacted David shortly after that and we had some short email and telephone exchanges. I have great respect for David. I appreciate he had the courage to write his book and his spiritual beliefs. Several months ago I was doing an internet search of friend who meant a great deal to me and found he was in hospice care. Yesterday, I searched again and found he had passed. Please accept my profound sympathy for a man with great conviction for what was right in this world. Peace and Semper Fidelis”
