He was predeceased by: his wife Clara Whitaker White Scearce; his parents, Thomas Leonard and Margaret Louise Scearce; and his siblings, Donald Wesley Scearce and Rachel Stroud.

He is survived by: his children, Kimberly Louise Scearce Chapman and Thomas Burton Scearce, Jr. (Burt); his daughter-in-law Elezabeth Eugenio Scearce (Liza); his sister-in-law Linda Scearce; and his sister Agnes Fowler.
