He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifton "Bud" Barnes and Burlyn Barfield Barnes; his brother Tim Barnes; and his brother-in-law Bill Bay. He is survived by: his wife Susan Lamm; his children, Barry Barnes (Sheri) of Chapel Hill, Lauren Nichols (William) of Nashville, TN and Leslie Reed (Dylan) of Trinity; his granddaughter Maddie Barnes of Chapel Hill; his sister Joyce Bay of Raleigh; and his sister-in-law Angie Barnes of Wilson.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Cumby Family Funeral Service - Archdale (206 Trindale Rd, Archdale, NC 27263). Visitation was held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
