She was predeceased by: her parents, Stone Stone and Ruth Stone; her husband Michael V. Gilbert; her son Nickie Ballard; and her siblings, Peggy McMillian, June Huey, Nancy Polson and Dean Stone.
She is survived by: her children, Cynthia Ballard of Nebo, NC, Tina Baker of Arden, NC and Mitchell Ballard (Libby) of Asheville, NC; and her siblings, John Stone (Susan Spackman) of Asheville, NC, Judy Allen (Dick) of Etowah, NC and Susan Turner of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
