He was predeceased by: his parents, Sheff Daniel Olinger, Sr. and Ada Yeary Olinger; and his siblings, William Olinger, Sheff Daniel Olinger, Jr. and Elizabeth Olinger.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Nuckles Olinger; his children, Sharon Gay Olinger of Asheville, NC, Benjamin Ray Olinger, Jr. of Campobello, SC, John Bell Floyd Olinger (late Tamara) of Marietta, GA and Jennifer Olinger Deatherage (Ralph) of Puyallup, WA; and his sister Sue Shaw (Larry) of Floyd, VA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
