He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Eugene Smith and Virginia Crossley Smith; and his sister Sherryn Martin. He is survived by: his wife Debbie Smith; his grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashlynn, Brayden Harbor of Asheboro, Jacob and Breanna Smith of Blacksburg; his brother Todd Smith (Jane) of Hampton; his brother-in-law John Martin of Youngsville, Pennsylvania.; and his caregiver Senior Helpers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rushwood Church or to the Parkinson's Foundation.
