He was predeceased by: his parents, Tim Tewey Kern and Dorothy Irene Saunders Kern; his siblings, Silvia Chavez and Tim Kern; and his grandson Chad King.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Beane Kern; his daughters, Tammy Godwin (Terry) of Asheboro, Lisa King of Asheboro and Michelle Luther (Michael) of Asheboro; his grandchildren, David King, Carolyn Garner (Dustin), Allison Godwin, Patricia Pecorella (Joey), Brandy Luther, Brittny Vaughn (Jeremy) and Adrienne Luther; his pet Pookie; and his sisters, Judy McCreary, Doris Welch, Jeanne Black, Nell Daves and Terry Parsons. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
