He is survived by: his wife Barbara Crowder Siler; his son Derrick Smith (MariQueen) of Texas; and his siblings, Sundra Hooker of Graham, Judy White of Asheboro, Doris Siler of Asheboro, Penny Siler of Asheboro and Terry Siler of Asheboro. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
His contributions to the scouting community were numerous, including his involvement with the Order of the Arrow and the General Green Council.
