He was predeceased by: his parents, William Oliver and Thelma Buchanan McElrath; and his sister Bernice Rogers. He is survived by: his wife Betty Rice McElrath; his children, Laurie Houser (Scott) and Brian Kenneth McElrath (Cindy); and his grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Kaylee, Abby and Lawson.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 13th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Bethel United Methodist Church (1050 Riceville Rd, Asheville, NC 28805). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 13th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, May 13th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the same location.
