She was predeceased by: her parents, Ernest B. Lance and Sarah M. Brown Lance; her sons, Harold Bates, Jr. and Steve Bates; and her siblings, Cecil D. Brown, Lawrence Lance and Ruby Lance.
She is survived by: her children, Dianne Hollifield (Roeby), Deana Kinney of Asheville, Philip Bates and James Bates (Angie) of Asheville; her stepsons, Keith Bates of Mills River and Mike Bates (Sallie) of Killeen, TX; and her brother Bill Presley of Asheville. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
