He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph E. Swartz and Evelyn Hicks Swartz; his wife Hildegard Maria Swartz; his brother Charles "Chuck" J. Swartz of Middleville, NY; and his siblings-in-law, Karle Bäurle (Brigitte) and Hannelore Mueller (John).
He is survived by: his daughter Rebecca Swartz (Laura Brightwood); his son-in-law Marty Roupe; his close friend Kathleen O'Mara; his grandchildren, Griffin Roupe, Tessa Roupe and Sydney Brightwood; his sister-in-law Lynne Swartz; his nieces and nephews, Tracey Annable, Christl Mueller-Hussey, Gabriele Braun, Sybille Rose, Todd Swartz and Rüediger Bäurle; his extended family, Chris, Emily, Victoria Howle and Jake Calloway; Christine Schneider.
