He was predeceased by: his parents, Horace Benson, Sr. and Nellie Emma Warren Benson; his wife Ruby Jane Waldroup Benson; his son Robert "Pee Wee" Benson; his great grandchild Alexandar Benson; and his siblings, Arney Fields, Betty Moore, Horace Benson, Jr. and J. B. Benson.

He is survived by: his son Ronn Benson (Sarah) of Asheville; his grandchildren, Ron Benson, II (Stephanie) of Newport News, VA, Bryan Benson (Elise) of Stuttgart and Penny Sue Benson of Asheville; his great grandchildren, Olivia, Warren, Jacob and Madelyn; and his brother Jack Benson (Nora) of Asheville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
