He is survived by: his children, Robert Lee Wells, Jr., Steven Wells, Bonnie Ghezzi, Karen Costner and Suzanne Mince; and his siblings, Franklin Wells and Goldie McGee. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
