He was predeceased by : his parents, Jackson Mathis and Sallie Worley Mathis; his daughter Barbara; his siblings, Lloyd, Hugh Mathis, Carrie Morgan and Agnes Gardin; and his stepson Roger Rector.

He is survived by : his brother James Mathis; his stepdaughter Sandra Rector Waldroup (Ed); and his granddaughters, Sonya and Sabrina.
