William Van Smith Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William Van Smith in Asheville, North Carolina, who passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

In the sacred silence of farewell, William is released into the embrace of eternity, knowing that his light will continue to shine brightly in the tapestry of the lives of his loved ones. And as his memory is carried forward, may comfort be found in the knowledge that love is eternal, and that William's spirit lives on in the beauty that surrounds us.

He was predeceased by: his parents, William VanPelt Smith and Hattie Williams Smith; and his sisters, Doris S. Conrad and Carolyn S. Whicker. He is survived by: his wife Betsy (Betsy) of Asheville; his sons, Van Smith (Mary Bryan) of Charlotte and Brian Smith of Miramar Beach, Florida; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Smith and William Smith. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
