He was predeceased by: his parents, William Taylor Payne Sr. and Rosa Mae Reeves. He is survived by: his wife Artis "Artie" Long of Asheville; his children, Lynda Greene (Richard) of Boone, Kathy Adams (John) of Knoxville, Tennessee and William Taylor Payne III (Leesa) of Burlington; and his grandchildren, Laura Brown (Doug) of Tampa, Florida, Emily Anderson (Jonas) of Denver, Colorado, Paul Adams (Jesika) of Duluth, Georgia, Sarah Adams of Knoxville, Lydia Adams of Tucson, Arizona, Rachael Payne of Miami, Florida and William Taylor Payne IV of Burlington. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and several cousins.
