It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Winston Delano Wooten of Ayden, North Carolina, who passed away on July 8, 2025, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry and Sudie Cunningham Wooten; his former wife Sandra Sutton Wooten; and his siblings, Robert, Wayne, John, James, Carl, Norman, Williams, Clifton, Effie Wooten, Katherine Bright, Selma Rogers, Ruth Grayiel and Mamie Smith Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Riggs Wooten; his daughter Wendy W. Dunbar (Robbie); his grandchildren, Keith Winston Dunbar (Logan Caitlyn Webb) and Kylie Nicole Dunbar (Josh Philip Gibbs); his stepchildren, Christopher Riggs (Trudy) and Susan Persinger; his stepgrandchildren, Brad Persinger (Emily), Brent Riggs (Brittany), Kelsey Johnson (John) and Allie Liston (Tim); his stepgreat-granddaughters, Sadie Johnson and Monica Riggs; and his sister Margaret W. Oehrli. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution to The Memorial Baptist Church or the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center is suggested.
