He was predeceased by : his parents, Evelyn Maiebelle Thompson Estes and George L. Estes; his former life partner Deborah "Debbie" Roddy Estes; and his stepson Wayne Freeman. He is survived by : his daughter Michelle Fitzpatrick (Jeff); and his stepdaughter Molly Rice (Adrian).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Legion Post #243 PO Box 331 Bessemer City, NC 28016.
