He was predeceased by: his father Lewis Oats, Sr.. He is survived by: his mother Virginia Moore Oats; his sister DeWanda O. Coleman; his niece Janita Coleman (Lamont Brown); his great-niece Keona Coleman; his aunts, Gail Cook, Thelma Gibbs (Hilliard) and Carolyn Moore; his uncle Charles Moore (Alice); and his friends, Paula Gibson Jones, Lee Gaddis and Josh Allen. He is also survived by cousins, other dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (24 Sanctuary Hill Dr, Canton, NC 28716). Visitation will be held on Monday, August 11th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. The military honors will be held on Monday, August 11th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711).
