He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucius Guy Byrd and Mary Clark Byrd; his wife Ethel Elizabeth Byrd; his siblings, Betty Powers, Ella Jones, Bud Byrd, Charles Byrd, Yates Byrd and Ruth Russell; and his grandfather Robert L. Byrd.
He is survived by: his children, John Robert Byrd, Jr. and Mary "Bunnie" Dowless (Terry); his siblings, Cecil Byrd and Rosa Edge; and his grandchildren, Cameron Dowless, Mason Byrd and Emma Byrd.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 23rd 2026 from 3:30 PM to 4:15 PM at the Center Road Baptist Church (2484 Center Rd, Bladenboro, NC 28320). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 23rd 2026 at 4:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, April 23rd 2026 at 5:15 PM at the New Pait Cemetery (3358 Center Rd, Bladenboro, NC 28320).
