She was predeceased by: her parents, Nathaniel Poteat and Lucretia Moore Poteat; her husband John Scott, Jr.; and her siblings, Patricia Poteat, Mary Brown, Ester McGhee, Edward, Woodrow and Marvin Poteat.
She is survived by: her children, Felicia Corbett of Burlington, Katryna Dixon of Danville, Amanda Scott-Slaton (Monrae) of Mebane, John Alfred Scott (Jean) of Reidsville and Darrell Scott of Blanch; her siblings, Betty Jean Merriman of Arlington, Virginia, Henry Poteat of Reidsville, Michael Poteat of Danville and David Poteat of Yanceyville; her grandchildren, Shaahida Akbar, Medina Akbar and Savion Scott; and her great grandchild Cairo Ballard. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends.
Viewing was held on Friday, September 19th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the John & Juanita's. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home (219 Dillard School Dr, Yanceyville, NC 27379). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 20th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Hamer Missionary Baptist Church (4425 NC-62, Blanch, NC 27212). A burial was held on Saturday, September 20th 2025 at the Hamer Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery (4425 NC-62, Blanch, NC 27212).
