He was predeceased by: his parents, Venton Ashley and Alma Ashley. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ashley; his children, Mary Isaacs, Amy Whittington and Tim Ashley; and his sisters, Annie Ashley Shores and Janice Watson Brumit (Joe) of Asheville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
