Gene Luther Whitington Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gene Luther Whitington of Boone, North Carolina, who passed away on October 24, 2022, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Frank Whitington and Mary Lena Whitington; his children, Gene Luther Whitington, Jr. and Deborah Whitington Demott; his grandson Frank Gaines Whitington, Jr.; and his siblings, John Raymond Whitington, Mary Ann Wood and Helen Frances Grayson.

He is survived by : his wife Dr. Rebecca Anderson; his children, Jeanie Whitington Mercer (Breen Bland), Peggy Whitington Reynolds (Wayne) of Beaufort, SC and Frank Gaines Whitington (Mary) of Windsor, CA; his stepdaughters, Dr. Katie Sharpe Dean (Timothy) of Savannah, GA and Whitney Sharpe Wills (Julian) of Port Tobacco, MD; his grandchildren, Amanda Mercer Thompson (Dave) of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Carlo Ray Reynolds (Jean) of Philadelphia, PA, Shepherd Bates Reynolds (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, NC, Montana Whitington Burdich (Collin) of San Francisco, CA, Savannah Whitington Van Meter (Jeff) of Novato, CA, Anderson, Thomas, William Dean of Savannah, GA and Julian Wills (Port Tobacco, MD); and his siblings, Dr. Peter F. Whitington (Susan) of Burnsville, NC, Dr. Timothy Whitington (Suwannee), Bangkok, Thailand and, DC of Washington. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
