He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Watson and Jennie Hartley Watson; his former wife Bessie Jean Watson; his siblings, Rev. Gene Watson (Pansy), Paralee Green (Ronald) and Mevolene Watson; and his close friend Sid Watson.
He is survived by: his close friend Joe Greer; his wife JoAnne Barbour Watson; his daughters, Donna Catone (Joe) and Sharon Greene (Stacey); his stepsons, Joseph Barbour, Stephen Barbour (Amanda) and Samuel Barbour (Molly); his grandchildren, Justin Duthie, Amy McGinn (John), Abigail Catone, Brandy Greene, Trathen Greene (Jessica), Jakob Greene and Jenna Hefti (Ryan); and his stepgrandchildren, Micaela, Amanda, Olivia, Katlyn, Jennifer and Tyler.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 24th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home (194 Queen St, Boone, NC 28607). A funeral service was held on Sunday, May 24th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
