She was predeceased by: her parents, Wilson Gillespie (Winnie Jennings) and Tennesse; her sister Bessie; her brother-in-law Benny Armour; and her granddaughter Stephanie Stewart.

She is survived by: her husband Bob Stewart of Boone; her son Gene (Margaret Stewart) of Monroe; her granddaughter Shelley (Jesse Simkins) of Burnsville; and her great grandchildren, Annika Simkins of Burnsville and Juan Simkins of Burnsville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to Samaritans Purse in Nelle's name.
