He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Pleasant Stewart and Rachel McDaniels; his wife Nell Stewart; and his sisters, Sally Causel and Dorothy Longston.
He is survived by: his son Gene Stewart (Margaret); his grandchildren, Shelley Simkins (Jesse), Annika Simkins and Juan Simkins; and his brothers, Newton "Newt" Stewart (Nell), Paul Stewart (Sonya) and Wayne Stewart (Joan).
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel (194 Queen St, Boone, NC 28607). A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at the Mount Lawn Memorial Park (521 Old East King St, Boone, NC 28607).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert's memory to Greenway Baptist Church or to Samaritan's Purse.
